I have two Macs - one MacBook Pro for work, one Desktop for personal use - that are at least 2.4 GH Intel Core 2 Duos with 2 or 4 GB of memory.īrowsers seem to be the worst offenders, often getting as large as 4-500 GB with a dozen windows open, after "starting" at 150-200 GB. This seems to occur most with browsers, and can slow the entire machine. I believe this is known as a "memory leak" where an application acquires but doesn't release memory. ![]() In the past year or so I've noticed that many of my applications slowly increase their real memory usage regardless of whether I'm actively working with them or not.
